Moving towards the new Vision
It’s getting exciting, the new vision is shaping up and, everything being equal, the National Transformation 2063, should be ready for launch by early December 2020. Certainly, the plan is to give the country the gift of a new vision by New Year’s Day 2021.
Brains are at work. The technocrats within the National Planning Commission (NPC), supported by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development as well as independent experts hired to provide backroom assistance, are busy on the key boards putting together a momentous document inspired by dreams of Malawian youths, men and women.
The work is also being guided by outcomes from the inaugural National Development Conference (NDC) which NPC and partners hosted from August 27 to 28, 2020. The Conference provided a platform where citizens, state and non-state actors discussed emerging issues from public consultations for the development of the National Transformation 2063.
In between, NPC continues to strike partnerships with various institutions for collaboration in some activities in the fulfilment of its mandates. On September 17, 2020, NPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malawi Agriculture Policy Advancement and Transformation Agenda (MwaPATA) Institute to work togetherin policy research in agriculture, natural resources and rural transformation. The event marked the official commencement of joint research activities between the two institutions in shaping national policies and development plans in the specified fields. MwAPATA Institute was established in 2019 with the support from NPC to operate as its affiliate research arm.
Coming up, NPC has partnered with the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) in the organization of the 3rd National Research Dissemination Conference (NRDC) to take place from November 18 to 20, 2020 at Sunbird Nkopola Conference Centre in Mangochi. The conference will be held under the theme ‘Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Towards a Wealthy and Self-reliant Nation’ and is, among other things, aimed at promoting research, science, innovation and technology in the attainment of the envisioned National Transformation 2063 vision.
The next few weeks are really going to be interesting for Malawi.
The Malawi we want is possible,it all begins with you and me!
