The National Planning Commission (NPC) and Charter Cities Institute (CCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding through which the United States of America-based organization will support the implementation of the recently launched Malawi Secondary Cities Plan (MSCP). In his remarks, Dr. Munthali said under the MoU, CCI will support the Malawi government in securing finance and investment, development of bankable projects and research in the implementation of the Malawi Secondary Cities Plan. On his part, Lockhart said the agreement was between CCI and Malawi as a country and that through it, Malawi is now a member of the Next 50 Cities Coalition which CCI is coordinating to foster the development of new cities and lift millions of people around the world out of poverty.
