SPC Urges Controlling Officers to Own MW2063 and Lead its Implementation

Secretary to the President and Cabinet Madame Colleen Zamba has called on controlling officers in government ministries, departments and agencies to own the Malawi 2063 national vision and lead in its implementation.

She was speaking at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe where she officially opened the MW2063 Pillar and Enabler Coordination Group (PECGS) meetings that will be held from Monday, November 27th to Monday December 4, 2023.

She said the Malawi 2063 will be realized through, among other things, effective implementation and coordination among MDAs and in strong alliance with the private sector, non-governmental organisations and development partners.

“The PECGs provide such forum for our engagements because we all have a role” she said.

She observed that implementation of the MW2063 has so far been slow but said while challenges that have contributed to the sluggish performance should be acknowledged, they should not be used as excuses for implementers to just to sit and watch.

“Rather, we should be innovative in our approach, and even find opportunities within the shocks, for turning things around.

“Our economy is now struggling with limited fiscal space, foreign exchange shortages and high debt levels but we do have low hanging fruits which can turn around our economy,” she said.

On her part, NPC Commissioner Mrs. Mercy Masoo, urged all state and non-state actors contributing to the implementation of the MW2063 to stick to the PECGs implementation framework and avoid parallel frameworks that do not reflect what the Government has set up to drive the MW2063 and its MIP-1.

“This will help us to pull in the same direction with regards to prioritization and implementation,” she said.

Director of Planning in the Department of Economic Planning and Development Mr. Adwell Zembele called on all implementers to demonstrate accountability for the priority interventions that were set for the country for the 2023/24 financial year.
