NPC holds training on economic forecast for MIP-1 implementation

The National Planning Commission (NPC), in collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and UNDP Malawi , has commenced a week-long training in Microeconomic Wide Modelling.

The training is aimed at equipping participants with advanced skills in economic analysis and forecasting to support the implementation of Malawi’s first 10-year Implementation Plan (MIP-1).The programme has brought together experts and key stakeholders from various sectors, including government institutions, to strengthen their knowledge and skills in applying economic models for evidence-based planning and policy formulation.

This initiative is part of Malawi’s broader efforts to accelerate the achievement of the country’s long-term vision, Malawi 2063.Speaking during the opening ceremony, NPC Director General Fredrick Changaya emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in national development.

“As far as economics is concerned, it is important that every decision be guided by data so that we can effectively deliver on our mandate towards the realization of Malawi 2063,” he said.

By investing in such initiatives, NPC is ensuring that Malawi develops the right expertise and tools to drive sustainable economic growth and inclusive development in line with the aspirations of MW2063.

The training has drawn participants from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the National Statistical Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, and NPC’s management team, among other institutions.
