We were at the Orientation Meeting of newly elected Members of Parliament at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe, where we handed over 250 copies each of the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) and the MW2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1) to the National Assembly secretariat for subsequent handover to every legislator in the house.
As representatives of the people in the August House, MPs are expected to be models in subscribing to the endorsement of a single national vision and commit to ensuring the continuity of development plans and projects beyond political regimes. As lawmakers who approve the national budget, MPS must ensure that the Government allocates adequate resources towards the implementation and realisation of MW2063, including financing the execution of the activities and projects under it. More importantly, MPs play a crucial role in mobilising communities to rally behind the MW2063 and holding the Government accountable for the delivery of the vision.
