National Planning Commission (NPC) Chairperson Professor Richard Mkandawire today led fellow commissioners and Director General Fredrick Changaya to a meeting with newly appointed Minister of Finance Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha at Capital Hill in Lilongwe during which the NPC expressed its commitment to work with the new government in delivering economic recovery and transformation with the framework of the Malawi 2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1).
Mkandawire started by congratulating Mwanamvekha and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on their recent victory that ushered them back into government, describing the triumph as a ‘landslide responsibility’ placed on them by the people of Malawi.
“As NPC, we are more than ready to support the new government in delivering to Malawians their expectation of economic transformation,” said Mkandawire.
On his part, Mwanamvekha expressed President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s commitment to Malawi’s economic transformation and realisation of the Malawi 2063 and that his ministry is banking on the NPC not only on development planning and implementation but also on finding solutions to the immediate challenges facing the country, centred around shortages of food, forex, fuel and fertiliser.
He also expressed the need for the NPC to assist in the implementation framework that will translate the DPP manifesto into reality in line with Malawi 2063.
“We are committed to partnering with NPC to transform Malawi and achieve development targets for 2030 and beyond,” said Mwanamvekha.
