FACTS ABOUT NSANJE

Nsanje is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The district covers an area of 1,942 square kilometres (750 sq mi) and has a population of 194,924.

Nsanje is the southernmost district in Malawi and lies in the Lower Shire River Valley. It straddles the Shire River in the north (the river forms most of Nsanje’s eastern boundary) and is surrounded by Mozambique. Nsanje is partially agrarian and crops grown include maize, sorghum, groundnuts, beans, soya beans and other pulses. The district is on route of the Sena rail line connecting Malawi to the Mozambican port of Beira.

Nsanje has 11 second level subdivisions of 1. TA Mlolo, 2. SC Mbenje, 3. Mwabvi Game Reserve, 4. TA Tengani, 5. TA Malemia, 6. Nsanje Boma, 7. TA Ngabu, 8. SC Makoka, 9. TA Chimombo, 10. TA Nyachikadza and 11. TA Ndamera
