Thyolo district is located in the Southern Region of Malawi. The district covers an area of 1,715 sq. km. and has a population of 458,976.

Thyolo has an agro-based economy with the main cash crop being tea grown in commercial farms. Main food crops grown in Thyolo are maize, groundnuts, beans, soya beans, pigeon peas and other pulses. Thyolo has a seasonal temperature weather which enables growing horticultural crops like pineapples and bananas which are exported to other districts in the country. Two main towns in the district are Bvumbwe and Luchenza located on the Blantyre-Thyolo-Mulanje road.
