National Planning Commission (NPC) staff were among 46 public officials who graduated today from a six-week online Intermediate Moderated training programme on Child-Centred Evaluation Systems Strengthening, organised by UNICEF Malawi.
The training brought together participants from NPC, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development (EP&D), the Ministry of Local Government, and the ministries of agriculture and energy and mining.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony in Lilongwe today, NPC acting Director of Knowledge and Learning Dr. Andrew Jamali, emphasised the importance of evaluation in national development planning.
“Evaluation is a key tool for the successful implementation of Malawi 2063,” he said.
On her part, UNICEF Resident Representative in Malawi, Ms. Penelope Campbell, underscored the importance of child-centred data and evidence.
“Effective evaluations are central to achieving and tracking progress in transforming children’s lives,” she noted.
The program targeted professionals responsible for commissioning, conducting, and using evaluation results in development planning.
Sharing her experience, Ms. Mireille Kadewa, Development Planning Officer at NPC, reflected on the training’s impact on her work.
“This program is particularly important because it promotes inclusivity as envisioned in Malawi 2063,” she explained.
