FACTS ABOUT NENO

Neno is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The district has apopulation of 158,000. Neno was split from the neighbouring Mwanza district in 2003.

The district’s main agricultural activities are tobacco and cotton farming as cash crops and food crops grown are mostly: maize, beans, soya, groundnuts and other pulses. Neno’s upper areas have temperate weather where citrus fruits like tangerines and oranges are grown as well as a variety of vegetables which are mostly shipped to the southern commercial city of Blantyre and the central region city and capital, Lilongwe. Neno has an international border with Mozambique on the west. Neno partly hosts the Nacala-Moatize rail line operated by Vale Logistics.

Neno has five second level subdivisions:1. TA Ngozi, 2. TA Dambe, 3. TA Symon, 4. TA Mlauli, 5. Majete Game Reserve - Neno
