Salima is a district in the Central Region of Malawi.The district covers an area of 2,196 sq. km. and has a population of 478,346. The beach at Senga Bay has several lake side resorts that attract local and international tourists and has been the host the annual Lake of Stars festival for several times.
Salima is also home to Malawi Army’s training college, Malawi Armed Forces College, Salima Sugar – a private sugar production company. The main economic activities of the district are agriculture and fisheries. Cash crops grown in Salima are tobacco and cotton. Food crops grown include maize, rice, beans, soya beans and other pulses. Salima is a main supplier of fish to the capital city Lilongwe which lies to the west of the district.
Salima has 10 second level subdivisions of 1. TA Khombedza, 2. SC Mwanza, 3. TA Kuluunda, 4. TA Karonga, 5. Salima Town, 6. TA Maganga, 7. TA Pemba, 8. SC Kambwiri, 9. TA Ndindi and 10. SC Kambalame.
