Zomba district is one of the districts in the Southern Region of Malawi, surrounded by the districts of Chiradzulu, Blantyre, Mulanje, Phalombe, Machinga, Balaka and the Republic of Mozambique to the east. The total land area is 2,363 sq. km. and has a total population of 746,724.
The main agricultural activities of the district are farming of tobacco and cotton cash crops, while the main food crops grown are maize, rice, beans and other pulses. Zomba Mountain at Zomba City is a centre of tourist attraction. Zomba was the first seat of Malawi Government, before moving to Lilongwe. Zomba is still the home The University of Malawi, Chancellor College and The Malawi Institute of Education Domasi among others.
Zomba has eight second level subdivisions: 1. TA Malemia, 2. SC Mkumbira, 3. TA Kuntumanj, 4. TA Mlumbe, 5. Zomba City, 6. TA Mwambo, 7. TA Chikowi, 8. SC Mbiza
