Vice President Right Honourable Dr. Michael Usi says religious leaders are key to positive mindset change among Malawians if the country is to achieve economic transformation as envisioned in the Malawi 2063 national vision.
He was speaking in Lilongwe today, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 during a ‘Chaplaincy as Vehicle for Malawi 2063’ conference hosted by the Council of Chaplaincy Ministry (COCHAM) in collaboration with the National Planning Commission (NPC) and World Vision International.
Usi emphasized the need for chaplains to embrace a growth mindset, adapt to changing times and harness their influence to drive positive change among their congregants.
“There is need for religious leaders to address undesirable behaviors that are not relevant for progress… Let’s work together to turn things around,” he said.
On his part, NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali called for chaplains’ collective commitment to adoption of a positive mentality and embracing innovation, saying a nation’s mindset is shaped by its spiritual leaders.
“Let us rise to the challenge and become the catalysts for a positive change,” he said.
The conference was aimed at redefining the role of spiritual leadership in achieving the Malawi 2063.
It brought chaplains from various religious bodies to explore innovative approaches to fostering a collective mindset aligned with the national vision.
