Comic Book Launched for Engaging Children on MW2063

The National Planning Commission (NPC) alongside the Ministry of Education on Wednesday 18th September, 2024 launched a comic book on the Malawi 2063 as an engaging tool for helping children in the country understand the national vision and the role they can play in shaping the country’s future.

With support from UNICEF, the comic book breaks down the Malawi 2063 through a story that uses everyday language among children in the country.

Secretary for Education Professor Mangani Katundu said during the launching ceremony at Mponela II Primary School at Mponela in Dowa that the MW2063 comic – which is also available in audio – is a powerful tool for demystifying the national vision among children as it combines storytelling with visuals, capturing their imagination while making complex ideas easier to understand.

“Today, as we launch this comic book, we are doing more than just introducing a fun read — we are providing a bridge between our children and the vision that will define their future. Through this book, learners will not only read about the country’s plans and aspirations but will also see themselves as active participants in this transformative journey,” he said.

On his part, NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali said MW2063 being youth centric, it is important for young people to be familiar with the spirit behind it – which is the importance of wealth creation and self-reliance in the realization of the national vision. “The comic is a simple illustration of the mindset that every Malawian child needs to have,” he said.

He disclosed that distribution of the book has already started in various primary schools across the country and that the ultimate aim is of taking it to every school – both public and private – in the country.

Head Girl of Mponela II Primary School, Evelyn Nyson, highlighted the comic book’s importance in helping learners understand the MW2063 vision and inspiring them to become hardworking students.

UNICEF Country Representative, Shadrek Omol, described young people as leaders and drivers of change, stating, “Together, we can ensure that every young person is informed, empowered, and ready to lead Malawi into a prosperous future.”
