Deputy SPC for Urgency on MIP-1 Implementation

The Deputy Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Janet Banda has today officially opened the 2024 Pillar and Enabler Coordination Groups (PECGS) meetings of the Malawi 2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1) with a call to various government and non-government agencies to apply a sense of urgency and business unusual approach to accelerate implementation of the Malawi 2063 National Vision.

The PECGs meetings start today at Sunbird Capital Hotel and will run through next week October 9, 2024 to provide key implementation agencies in government, NGOs, the private sector and development partners to reflect on the progress made in implementing the 2024/25 MIP-1 priority interventions and to set the stage for the priorities of the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Banda said the meetings also reinforce implementers collective commitment to meeting both the MW2063 and MIP-1 milestones. She said to successfully navigate various challenges affecting implementation of MIP-1 so far, implementers must stay focused on the key priorities and work together in leveraging each other’s financial and technical strengths.

“By bringing together stakeholders with shared interests, the Pillar and Enabler Coordination Groups provide a platform for collaboration. Working together to break the silos, ensures that we can support one another where weaknesses or capacity gaps exist,” she said. She further called for urgency, consistency, mindset shift and a business unusual approach to ensure effective implementation of the vision.

On his part, NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali said acceleration in the implementation of key MIP-1 interventions still makes it possible for the country to achieve its MIP-1 targets.
“If we priorities manufacturing in addition to agriculture, mining and tourism – ATM strategy – being championed by the leadership, we can achieve the MIP-1 targets by 2030,” he said.
