Youths challenged on MW2063 actualisation

The National Planning Commission (NPC) has challenged young people and youth organisations to be at the forefront in ensuring the effective realisation of the Malawi 2063 national vision.

NPC Director of Development Planning Dr Grace Kumchulesi says that without the leadership and dedication of the youth, the MW2063 can’t be achieved.

She was speaking in Lilongwe on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, during a Youth Engagement Strategy (YES) stakeholders’ orientation meeting aimed at strengthening youth participation in national development.

Opening the meeting, Kumchulesi emphasised that youth must move beyond participation and take centre stage in development implementation.

“Young people must take their rightful place in driving development if Malawi 2063 is to become a reality. Stakeholders need to clearly understand their roles in turning our national vision into action,” she said.

The meeting sought to build a shared understanding of the Youth Engagement Strategy, clarify stakeholder roles, discuss indicators and targets, and agree on mechanisms for tracking progress and reporting.

It brought together participants from the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Gender, National Youth Council of Malawi, District Youth Officers, and key partners including UNICEF, UN Women, NEEF, MRA, AGRA, SMEDI, Malawi Law Commission, NICE Trust, CAMFED, Malawi Girl Guides Association, and the MW2063 Youth Advisory Panel, reflecting strong multi-sectoral commitment to youth empowerment.

The Youth Engagement Strategy was launched in 2024, reinforcing the government’s commitment to placing young people at the heart of national development.
