Ghana’s National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) on Thursday, August 31, 2023 hosted
officials from Malawi’s National Planning Commission (NPC) and Department of Economic Planning and
Development (EP&D) to a knowledge sharing meeting during which technocrats from their two
countries exchanged notes on their experiences in medium to long term national development planning
and implementation.

The Malawi team is in Ghana for a benchmarking visit courtesy of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Officially opening the meeting, NPDC Director General Dr. Kodjo Mensah-Abrampa said the visit was important for both Ghana and Malawi as the two countries have several similarities in their institutional and policy set-up in development planning.

On her part, Dr. Grace Kumchulesi – leader of the Malawi team, said Malawi chose Ghana for benchmarking because of the vast experience the country has in development planning and implementation having established its
planning commission over 30 years ago.

The meeting was also attended by officials from Ghana’s Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development.
