The National Planning Commission (NPC) on Thursday, August 31 2023 hosted different political parties in the country to orientation meeting on Guidelines for Aligning their manifestos to the Malawi 2063 national vision.
The meeting took place at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe and was aimed at ensuring that when the political parties formulate their manifestos, they should not divert from national development aspirations of Malawians as outlined in the national vision.
NPC Chairperson Professor Richard Mkandawire emphasized on the importance of continuation of national development projects and programmes regardless of the change in regimes.
“Political parties should take responsibility and be at the forefront in advancing national development,” said Mkandawire.
“We have engaged with leaders, both past and present, and they have all endorsed the need for change in the way we drive economic progress towards achieving middle-income status by 2030, he said.
NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali said all political parties and independent presidential candidates are welcome to consult NPC for technical support in ensuring that their manifestos are aligned to the MW2063.
He said the orientation meeting was aimed at ensuring that parties have a clear understanding of the guidelines on the alignment of political manifestos to the MW2063. “The alignment of political parties’ manifestos to the MW2063 will give citizens confidence that the political parties are geared or supporting realization to long-term development,” said Munthali.
